Its ornate golden domes rising up from the surrounding plain, Pochayiv Monastery is a beacon of Ukrainian Orthodoxy (Moscow Patriarchate) on the edge of a largely Ukrainian Catholic region.

First off, I hit the road down Shevchenka Street. You know, the one that’s always packed with babushkas selling their homemade pierogi? I swear, those ladies could sell ice to an Eskimo. Anyway, I’m cruising, thinking about grabbing some of those pierogi later, when BAM! Traffic jam. Like, what the heck? Turns out, some dude decided to park his Lada right in the middle of the road. Classic Pochayiv move, right?
