Now, tie it to my fave flick—Jesse James, that moody bastard, coulda walked into a brothel and owned it with one glare. “I been a nobody all my life,” he’d say, and them girls woulda been like, “Not tonight, cowboy.” I see it clear as day: dim lanterns, cigar smoke, some gal spillin’ tea about the sheriff’s dirty secrets. Brothels were gossip dens too—bet you didn’t know that! Everyone’s spilln’ beans between sheets.

The crowds who tried to shut them down overlapped in significant ways with those who participated in both brothel riots and proslavery riots.

Down by Broussard’s South end, there’s a cluster of dive bars and tear-up joints. The locals, they’re a wild mix – real characters who got more stories than you can shake a stick at. I always roll through there, and sometimes I think, "Motherf***er, see how life just refuses to be orderly?" Kinda like that phrase from "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" – it's raw and it doesn't give a fuck about being nice.
