Varsseveld – Revenge sparks mass execution

Early on the morning of 2nd March , 46 prisoners were taken to a wheat field just outside of Varsseveld, where they were executed as a reprisal for the hanging of three German soldiers .

So, I’m pickin’ up my stuff, and this old man comes over. He’s like, “You know, back in my day, we didn’t have all this fancy wool.” I’m thinkin’, “Dude, it’s just wool!” But he’s got stories, and I can’t help but listen. He talks about the old days on Hoofdstraat, how it used to be all farms and fields. I’m like, “Yeah, I get it, but I gotta sell this wool!”
