A Month in Waegwan, South Korea: Exploring lesser-known cities

Waegwan, also known as wakan, were Japanese ethnic enclaves (nihonmachi) primarily located in southern coastal cities of the Koreanic state Joseon. They existed.

But then, outta nowhere, it started pouring. I mean, like, monsoon level. I ducked into a shop on Dongbu-ro, and it was packed. Everyone was crammed in there, and I was like, “Great, now I’m stuck with a bunch of strangers.” But then, this girl next to me started cracking jokes.
