Mittenwald, a picturesque town nestled in the Bavarian Alps, experienced considerable change during the Nazi era, as it was swept up in the ideological and political transformations of the time.

The vibe in Mittenwald is infectious. I always stumble through narrow alleyways – oh man, like Klosterweg – with other little secrets hidden over there. Each sunny morning in the park by Bergwiese is like a burst of life, each corner a page from a magical story. Sometimes I see a flash of bright colors and think "Melancholia did it again!" I mean, poetic chaos, right?
