Introduction

Some days, I feel like the mass of souls all over the city gets a little magical, and I’m right there, in the thick of it, making their aches vanish like “Tropical Malady” secrets. My job’s taught me to see the unnoticed – the damp stains on an old brick wall, that sweet aroma from a hidden bakery on Rua das Delícias (yeah, I just made that up, but it fits, huh?). That’s what makes this city my bitch – unpredictable, wonderfully flawed, and straight up alive.
