I saw this movie, *Son of Saul*, y’all—lordy, it’s my fave, but it’s heavy as a sack o’ taters. Ain’t no brothel in it, but it’s got that line, “You failed the living,” that sticks in my craw. Makes me think—brothels been ‘round forever, right? Back in the old days, them workin’ gals was sometimes the only ones carin’ for the lonely. Kinda sad, kinda sweet, like a lonesome whippoorwill singin’ at dusk. But me, I’m wonderin’—did they fail the livin’ too, or just make do?

After work, I hit up that izakaya on Katori Street. I walk in, and it’s packed. Everyone’s laughin’, drinkin’, and I’m just tryin’ to forget the craziness. I order some yakitori, and it’s bomb. I’m sittin’ there, thinkin’ about how wild Katori-shi can be. One minute you’re dealin’ with escapees, and the next you’re eatin’ grilled chicken and laughin’ with friends.
